New Version of Nuxeo Studio for Easy Customization of Nuxeo Open Source Document Management

without comments

We just released a new version of Nuxeo Studio, the customization toolset for building solutions based on Nuxeo Enterprise Platform.

For this release, we focused on decreasing the learning curve by offering a set of predefined, configurable templates, so that users can re-use and learn from these examples. Indeed, users trying Nuxeo Studio need to quickly get the logic of Nuxeo Document Management (DM), and understand document types, layouts, lifecycles, etc… and can be confronted with “the void of paper”, extensively described by Stéphane Mallarmé in his poem “Brise Marine”:)

Nuxeo Studio - Create
We now offer new Studio users concrete examples, so they can “see and modify”, which is much easier than just “create”. For instance, you can now import the default Nuxeo DM configuration, to start from existing document types, content views and lifecycles and just modify them. We also made sure that Studio 2.1 could leverage the new features …

Dashboards Management

without comments

With the recent release of Nuxeo Document Management 5.4.2, administrators can now manage the dashboards within the application and related configuration.
A new Dashboards section has been incorporated into the Admin Center to regroup everything connected to dashboards in Nuxeo:

  • Default user dashboard
  • Anonymous dashboard
  • External gadgets

Default user dashboard

The default user dashboard is configured through the Admin Center. It is displayed the first time a user accesses their own dashboard to initialize it to the default configuration.

User dashboard:

As shown in the screenshot, there is also a new button on the User dashboard Restore to default that allows the user to restore the state of their dashboard to the default one configured by the administrator.

Anonymous dashboard

The anonymous dashboard configured in the Admin Center is the dashboard that will be seen by all anonymous users connecting to Nuxeo Document Management.

Configuring Search Forms for Domain-Specific Results

without comments

If you’ve ever wanted to configure a search form within a specific domain, here’s your chance!
Now incorporated with Nuxeo products, via the new Local Configuration, you may have a dedicated Faceted Search or Advanced Search. What can you do with this new search capability? One example is that this type of search permits queries to be conducted for invoices used by managers, but also provide a more restricted Advanced Search for normal people.

It may interest you…

That looks good, but HOW?

I won’t go into detail about how exactly to contribute your new search, but you may refer to our Documentation Center for starters.

As you know, Faceted Search and Advanced Search are based on Content Views. So, you will need to create two new content views, and then add a flag:

  • a FACETED_SEARCH flag, so that it is recognized as a Faceted Search
  • a ADVANCED_SEARCH

Light OpenSocial JavaScript Gadget Container

without comments

EDIT (5.24.2011): there has been a minor update to the API, so the code has changed.

Ever wanted to easily add an OpenSocial gadget to one of your templates in Nuxeo Document Management or on your Nuxeo WebEngine site? It’s now possible thanks to the integration of the light JavaScript container from Apache Shindig and our new jQuery plugin!

This feature will be part of the next release, Nuxeo DM 5.4.2.

Quick usage of the jQuery plugin?

$(document).ready(function() {
$('.gadgets').openSocialGadget({
baseURL: '${baseURL}',
language: '#{localeSelector.language}',
gadgetDefs: [
{ specUrl: 'http://www.labpixies.com/campaigns/todo/todo.xml' },
{ specUrl: 'http://localhost:8080/nuxeo/site/gadgets/lastdocuments/lastdocuments.xml' }
]
});
})

Load all the gadgets referenced by their gadget specifications in the elements matching the css class gadgets.
The first gadget http://www.labpixies.com/campaigns/todo/todo.xml will be loaded into the first matching element, the gadget http://localhost:8080/nuxeo/site/gadgets/lastdocuments/lastdocuments.xml in the second one.

Quite easy to use :)

User Home in Nuxeo DM

without comments

During our Sprint organized at Nuxeo last February, one of the topics we worked on was to create a space within Nuxeo applications where all user related information would be available, now known as: the User Home.

The final goal of the User Home is to centralize the user, giving them access to functions related to their personal settings, such as:

  • dashboard
  • profile
  • settings
  • notifications
  • authorized applications

Current status

Since the Sprint, we continued to work on this feature, and we’re happy to report that it is now available in the current development, and will be part of the next release, Nuxeo DM 5.4.2, as well.

Dashboard

The user dashboard is the first entry point to the user home. There are two dashboards depending on whether you are using Nuxeo CAP or Nuxeo DM.

On Nuxeo CAP, there is a simple JSF dashboard:

On Nuxeo DM, we have a dashboard …

Placeful Service Transformed Into More Extensible Local Configuration Service

without comments

We are currently working the next release of Nuxeo Document Management, version 5.4.2, and we are integrating an enhanced feature for local configuration. If you are curious, keep reading below to find out about this new development, that is currently in testing & QA phases. If you want to find out about other new features in the upcoming version 5.4.2, follow this blog.

This new enhancement to Nuxeo DM 5.4.2 is called LocalConfigurationService. Its purpose is to have potentially different configurations based on where you are in the document hierarchy. The service is based on facets that we dynamically add to a document when the corresponding local configuration is enabled. These facets include a schema with fields to store the configuration values. For now, the available local configurations are based on the types of documents which are allowed in the subtree and local theme, but we will add more …
