Nuxeo Introduces First ECM-Based Open Source Case Management Framework

CMIS-Compliant Framework Provides a New Platform for Case-Centric Content Management Applications

BOSTON, June 29, 2010 -- Nuxeo, the Open Source Enterprise Content Management (ECM) company, today announced its new Nuxeo Case Management Framework (Nuxeo CMF) package for application builders, ISVs and information architects that need to deliver content-centric applications to business users. The open source case management framework is delivered as an easy-to-use downloadable product complete with templates, samples and documentation to fast-track deployments of content applications based on the Nuxeo Enterprise Platform (Nuxeo EP).

Nuxeo Case Management Framework leverages the power and extensibility of Nuxeo EP, with added functionality to support the flow of related content items that needs to be handled, managed and analyzed in a case-centric metaphor. It is designed to accelerate solution delivery and lower development costs, helping application builders, information architects and systems integrators fast-track the achievement of business goals and productivity gains by getting people working smarter and faster. Applications in production today using the Nuxeo ECM platform include invoice processing, contracts management, correspondence management, personnel file management, incident tracking, among others.

Nuxeo CMF is the first case management framework from an ECM provider released as open source. Nuxeo is deeply committed to both open source and open standards - ensuring full compliance with key initiatives such as CMIS (Content Management Interoperability Services), Dublin Core, PDF/A, OpenSocial and OSGi. Strong standards support provides assurance for customers that content is accessible, transferable, and can be preserved for long-term retention needs. As ECM interoperability standards such as CMIS gain broad adoption, Nuxeo CMF-based deployments are assured of full participation in new and innovative multi-repository applications that are demanded by large and distributed enterprises.

The Nuxeo Case Management framework is a full-featured, extensible toolkit that natively includes document management, collaboration, workflow, reporting, dashboards and unified in-box management functionality. This allows application builders to focus on building templates, plug-ins and business logic to meet specific content management requirements determined by industry-specific use cases or externally-imposed regulatory mandates. Fully assured and supported by the Nuxeo Connect comprehensive subscription offering, Nuxeo Case Management Framework builds on the deep content application expertise gathered from repeated customer successes. Nuxeo Connect customers will also be able to use the full power of Nuxeo Studio to enhance and tailor case-based applications with minimal coding, cutting typical development times from days to hours.

According to Toby Bell, Research VP with Gartner, "Case management frameworks — sometimes base configurations and sometimes more complete solutions — always represent value for buyers because they generally lower the cost and difficulty of ECM or BPMS implementation."

"Nuxeo and its customer community have implemented dozens of case-centric applications over the years and we have used this deep experience to create this comprehensive yet flexible framework", said Nuxeo CEO Eric Barroca. "With this new case management framework, we have packaged those common extensions and features to provide ISVs and customers with configurable tools to simplify development of content applications. Nuxeo Case Management Framework encourages fast customizations with minimal coding to deliver a quick, clear ROI. We are also ensuring that customers for the first time can build multi-repository case management applications, recognizing that large organizations may have multiple ECM systems in-house. Our support for the CMIS standard for content management interoperability allows us to launch this innovative offering and take advantage of the rapidly growing ecosystem of toolkits, mobile clients and applications designed specifically for CMIS."
