Document editing and revision
Edit in place with Nuxeo Live Edit
Nuxeo EP 5 provides the Nuxeo Live Edit plug-in to directly read, edit and save an external file stored in the content repository by using its native editor (such as MS Office for Office documents).
This very nice .Net plug-in provides an interface between Nuxeo EP 5 and the desktop, and offers a simple way to edit content without a complex upload/download mechanism supporting the versioning system of Nuxeo EP 5. Nuxeo Live Edit definitely provides a great user experience and dramatically increases user’s productivity.
Revision mechanism
The versioning system provided by Nuxeo EP 5 gives the opportunity to end users to create a working version of each document in case of major updates by using a check-in/check-out process.
When a working version is created by a user of the system (check-out), the previous version of the document is still available but locked into a read-only status. It is then possible to:
The system provides an interface to access all the archived versions of a document and to restore them if needed.
Version upgrade
After a document check-in, the user has the ability to choose to upgrade the version of the document:
This choice has an impact on the version numbering of the document and may update some of the properties qualifying the document.
The upgrade to a major version may also impact the workflow and the processes associated to the document.
Document editing without document upgrade
Nuxeo EP 5 provides a lightweight way to modify a document without using the versioning system. In that case, the user can modify the document without any impact on the version numbering. This kind of modification is not undoable.
All the modifications are recorded in the history status of the document and can be viewed as a dashboard.
