Nuxeo Releases Nuxeo Drive, a Desktop Synchronization Client for Content Management Applications

New York, Paris - April 30, 2013 – Nuxeo , the provider of a content management platform for business applications ,announces the availability of Nuxeo Drive, a desktop synchronization client that automates the content updating process between local desktops and the content repository. Nuxeo Drive works with all applications built on the Nuxeo Platform, including Document Management, Digital Asset Management, Case Management, and custom content-centric applications.

Nuxeo Drive installs a light client on the desktop, establishes a secure connection to the Nuxeo repository - on premise, or in the Cloud - and updates content when a change is detected, either locally or in the Nuxeo repository. Nuxeo Drive handles all types of content, from simple files such as documents, images, and slide decks to complex application output and custom content types. Secure conflict resolution ensures that collaborative projects stay up-to-date in the Nuxeo content repository.

Nuxeo Drive is fully customizable, in keeping with Nuxeo’s ongoing strategy to empower software architects and developers to build the content-centric applications that fit their business requirements. Written in Python, Nuxeo Drive is available as native binary for most operating systems. The synchronization client is based on an open RESTful protocol, so it can be used to develop an efficient synchronization client in any language, for custom content-centric applications. Nuxeo Drive is open source, with code available on GitHub .

Offline access. Nuxeo Drive starts or resumes synchronization when the network connection is available.
Flexible conflict management that allows review of discrepancies.
Structural updates. Move, rename, delete files, server-side or locally, and the synchronization client manages the update.
Works on multiple operating systems. Compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Management of all types of local content - from simple files to complex folder hierarchies generated by local applications.
Collaboration and workflow. The Nuxeo Platform supports collaborative content management, so all local synchronization activities can be configured to feed into the platform workflow processes.
Access control. Server-side access control policies are fully applied to the Nuxeo Drive synchronization process, maintaining the content security at all levels.
Synchronization of dynamic document lists. It is possible to configure Nuxeo Drive to synchronize documents that are in a specified state, to handle custom use cases.

Nuxeo Sees 40% Increase in New Accounts Since Latest Platform Update, Signs Major Customers in U.S.

New York, Paris – September 28, 2012 – Nuxeo , the provider of an open source content management platform for business applications , has experienced a sharp uptake in market response since the release of Nuxeo Platform 5.6 earlier this month. The Nuxeo Platform is a modular, extensible Java-based content management platform for building applications -- from document management to digital asset management to case management, to purpose-built content applications. Highlights of the 5.6 version, including new features for business process and workflow management, will be demonstrated at the Nuxeo booth at JavaOne in San Francisco, October 1-3, 2012.

The number of Nuxeo Platform users has been on a steady upward curve since entry into the U.S. market in 2009, but this curve spiked around the time of the Nuxeo Platform 5.6 release , a clear signal that Nuxeo’s one-of-a-kind offering is fulfilling a need in a marketplace that values the ability to customize and adapt applications to unique business processes. With this new version of the Nuxeo Platform, Nuxeo continues its strategic objective of providing a full-stack software platform and associated toolsets for purpose-built content-oriented business applications. This version further widens the gap with respect to competitor offerings by supporting customers throughout the full application lifecycle: from design and development to deployment and operation.

Content Routing: A Workflow Engine Designed for the Platform
Nuxeo Platform 5.6 features an adaptive workflow engine specifically designed for case management applications and leveraging platform services for views, forms, business logic and APIs. Content routing is directly integrated as a core service of the Nuxeo Platform and features powerful capabilities for both end users and application developers. End users can adapt the route midstream, potentially defining ad hoc tasks, involving other resources, or handing the workflow task off to someone else. Solution designers and application developers benefit from a graphical, easy-to-use tool for workflow process design with Nuxeo Studio, enabling configuration of forms and views and business logic definition. As part of the core platform technology, this feature can be used with any content-centric business application, from document management to case management to digital asset management. Previously, workflow was managed by jBPM, which is still compatible. The Nuxeo Platform also supports integrations with third party BPM systems

New Features in Nuxeo Studio
Ease of customization and development continues to be a cornerstone of the Nuxeo offering. Nuxeo Studio, the configuration and customization environment, provides a set of new features supported by the Nuxeo Platform:

Tab Designer , for configuration of both the layout and content of each tab for a content object, using default and custom widgets, essentially providing custom business views of persistent repository content for the end user,
Hot Reload: improvements to the way the platform handles hot reload makes all changes from Nuxeo Studio hot reloadable, dramatically speeding the development time,
Complex Type Definition: it is now possible to create complex types (with nested properties) in the schema designer for content objects, and use those complex types in forms and views.

Nuxeo Drive for Desktop Synchronization — This new technology is a Dropbox-like client for bidirectional synchronization of the Nuxeo repository with the local desktop, with advanced features for metadata editing, custom versioning, and conflict resolution. Currently available as a preview feature , the full release of Nuxeo Drive will come later this year.

Multi-Tenancy — Delivering on its strategy to help customers build SaaS applications, Nuxeo offers both application-level and container-level multi-tenancy in the 5.6 release of the Nuxeo Platform. Application-level multi-tenancy provides one instance for multiple clients, with tenant-specific data such as users, groups, vocabularies, document types, and themes. Container-level multi-tenancy provides one code base for multiple instances (JVMs), enabling isolation of instances so that OS-level features for resource sharing and quotas (i.e. network bandwidth, storage, CPUs, etc.) can be leveraged.

Content Diff and Document Templating — This new version offers document management features to extend content tracking and reporting capabilities. The new document diff feature provides a visual report of the differences between content objects, including properties, metadata, and textual content. The document templating system generates reports formatted by a standard document template and fed by content data stored in the Nuxeo repository.

Activity Wall, Likes, Votes — The Social Collaboration module that was introduced in version 5.5 helps promote user engagement within the content-centric application. New features in version 5.6 include a new wall to automatically display activities and updates for the workspace or other content object, “like” & “vote” features to show support, and a follow action button to trigger notifications. These new features are designed to give quicker access to relevant information and foster collaboration in traditional business applications.

User Interface Improvements — Nuxeo continually monitors ease of use from the end user’s perspective, integrating feedback from clients, community, and its own employees, who use the platform daily as the company intranet. Interface enhancements in this new version include:

a more ergonomic content summary page with easily accessible information, representing a move towards a single page paradigm for content objects,
a customizable action bar displayed on the content page, with a default set of buttons such as “like,” share, follow, and the possibility to create custom buttons.

Mobile App Framework — A template for building hybrid HTML5 / native applications, the mobile application and framework for iOS and Android was built on Apache Cordova. It includes most commonly used content management features, such as search, browse, preview, marked documents, activity stream, and much more.

Nuxeo to Provide Compatibility with Liferay Portal

Liferay has certified the Nuxeo Platform as a content source for Liferay Portal 6.1 Enterprise Edition (EE). Both software solutions, which are Java-based and open source, are compliant with the OASIS CMIS (Content Management Interoperability Services) standard. A CMIS-based connector enables a Nuxeo content repository to interface seamlessly with the Liferay Document Repository, so that content, such as documents and images, from a Nuxeo Document Management or Digital Asset Management application, can be referenced directly by a Liferay web portal via the Liferay Documents and Media Gallery.

The new integration comes in the context of Liferay Portal 6.1’s improved document management capabilities, which allow enterprises to integrate multiple enterprise repositories, including Nuxeo, and manage and access their documents across Liferay applications. The Nuxeo Platform allows users to create, review, and manage documents, and CMIS enables this content to be accessed via Liferay Portal and other CMIS consumers. This additional interoperability with Liferay Portal means that content can remain in the Nuxeo repository, eliminating the need to copy documents from one tool to another.

Nuxeo and Ephesoft Join Forces to Provide Document Capture to Content and Case Management Solution

Boston, Paris – September 7, 2011. Nuxeo, the provider of an Open Source Content Management Platform for Business Applications , today announced a technology alliance with Ephesoft, provider of an an intelligent document capture system .

A new connector between the Ephesoft document capture platform and the Nuxeo content management platform is based on the OASIS CMIS (Content Management Interoperability Services) standard. A webinar with a demonstration of the connector will take place on September 14th.

The technology alliance between Nuxeo and Ephesoft joins two open source software vendors with best-of-breed solutions for content management initiatives and a commitment to open standards. The connector between the two platforms is a fully open source, end-to-end solution for managing the entire content lifecycle, from capture to publish to archive. With technology from both vendors grounded in open standards, the whole solution is flexible enough to integrate easily into an existing IT infrastructure. Because the Nuxeo technology is platform-based, the end-to-end solution is fully adapted to document management, case management, or other specialized content management scenario.

Both Ephesoft and Nuxeo platforms are cloud-ready platforms, and the end-to-end solution can be deployed on the cloud quickly and easily.

“Content management architects frequently have a requirement for automating the flow of content from the data capture phase to the ECM application,” said Ephesoft CEO Don Field. “Now we can offer a standards-based solution that is quick to deploy and easy to integrate.”

Based on the CMIS standard, the connector allows for automated content flow from Ephesoft to the Nuxeo platform. Ephesoft captures documents from virtually any possible source (e.g. a scanner, multifunction peripheral, email, existing images, a fax server), then fully automates document separation and data extraction based on the document classification. With the CMIS-based connector between Ephesoft and the Nuxeo Enterprise Platform , the document can then be passed to a full-featured document management repository and incorporated directly into content-centric business processes, with automated workflow, versioning, search/retrieval, and publishing capabilities. The content captured from Ephesoft could also be fed into Nuxeo Case Management Framework , for a fully customizable capture-to-case processing solution.

Nuxeo Releases New Versions of Case Management Framework and Studio

These two new releases combine to offer more customization possibilities for Nuxeo CMF with Nuxeo Studio, the configuration environment for Nuxeo ECM platform products.

Case management is a context-sensitive process, and software solutions need to replicate very specific, ordered manual processes that were formerly paper-intensive, involving physical inboxes and outboxes and large file cabinets. Case management solutions must adapt cleanly to these ordered routines to offer real time savings across the case lifecycle – information processing, search, retrieval, and archiving. Nuxeo CMF adds case-centric functionality on top of the modular, robust Nuxeo Enterprise Platform , offering a flexible foundation that is designed for defining and structuring a case management software solution.

Create a case. Using the file cabinet paradigm, a case is the folder that holds all of the documents relevant to the case. Nuxeo Studio enables the definition of one or multiple types of cases, each with a specific lifecycle and metadata to help with search and classification.
Define a case item. Documents or other elements found in the file folder are called case items. A generic case item, with its own metadata, can be defined and associated with a case.
Define operations. With Nuxeo Studio, you can define a chain of operations that triggers automatically from a given action. For example, you may want to start a pre-defined workflow when a new case item is entered. Distribution and route management operations are available to help define and automate case management processes.
Lifecycles. A default lifecycle can be used as an example, to facilitate the creation of custom lifecycles, or it can be used as is. The graphical lifecycle definition tool makes this custom setting easy to learn.
