Nuxeo Opens U.S. Headquarters in NYC

New York, NY & Paris, France – Jan. 17, 2012 – Nuxeo, the provider of an open source content management platform for business applications, today announced the opening of its U.S. headquarters in New York City. The company initially expanded into the United States in 2009, and already has offices in Boston and Silicon Valley.
Building on the growth of its business in North America and the overall momentum of the company, Nuxeo has established a footprint in the New York tech scene. The new Silicon Alley site is much more than just another office, as Nuxeo has decided to locate its CEO and executives there. The company also plans to set up a technical team at their new site.

“The NYC tech community is a vibrant and promising environment for an innovative software company,” said Eric Barroca, Nuxeo CEO. “NYC is ideally located between Silicon Valley and Europe, making it a good central location for our global business. Nuxeo Announces Technology Alliance with Scality

A new connector between the Ephesoft document capture platform and the Nuxeo content management platform is based on the OASIS CMIS (Content Management Interoperability Services) standard. A webinar with a demonstration of the connector will take place on September 14th.

The technology alliance between Nuxeo and Ephesoft joins two open source software vendors with best-of-breed solutions for content management initiatives and a commitment to open standards. The connector between the two platforms is a fully open source, end-to-end solution for managing the entire content lifecycle, from capture to publish to archive. With technology from both vendors grounded in open standards, the whole solution is flexible enough to integrate easily into an existing IT infrastructure. Because the Nuxeo technology is platform-based, the end-to-end solution is fully adapted to document management, case management, or other specialized content management scenario.

Both Ephesoft and Nuxeo platforms are cloud-ready platforms, and the end-to-end solution can be deployed on the cloud quickly and easily.

Based on the CMIS standard, the connector allows for automated content flow from Ephesoft to the Nuxeo platform. Ephesoft captures documents from virtually any possible source (e.g. a scanner, multifunction peripheral, email, existing images, a fax server), then fully automates document separation and data extraction based on the document classification. With the CMIS-based connector between Ephesoft and the Nuxeo Enterprise Platform, the document can then be passed to a full-featured document management repository and incorporated directly into content-centric business processes, with automated workflow, versioning, search/retrieval, and publishing capabilities. The content captured from Ephesoft could also be fed into Nuxeo Case Management Framework, for a fully customizable capture-to-case processing solution.

Define a case item. Documents or other elements found in the file folder are called case items. A generic case item, with its own metadata, can be defined and associated with a case.
Define operations. With Nuxeo Studio, you can define a chain of operations that triggers automatically from a given action. For example, you may want to start a pre-defined workflow when a new case item is entered. Distribution and route management operations are available to help define and automate case management processes.
Lifecycles. A default lifecycle can be used as an example, to facilitate the creation of custom lifecycles, or it can be used as is. The graphical lifecycle definition tool makes this custom setting easy to learn.

Nuxeo Studio is a key component of a hosted customization as a service environment, and part of the Nuxeo Connect offering. Nuxeo Document Management Now Offers Digital Signature Option

Based on the X.509 standard, the new component provides a secure electronic method for signing PDF files in Nuxeo DM and verifying the signatures with a digital certificate in a PDF reader.

When used with Nuxeo Document Management, the Digital Signature option helps to ensure compliance and audit trails, and replaces paper-intensive signing with more efficient electronic processes. Content and information architects and developers who require a digital signing mechanism that provides user authentication and document integrity verification will benefit from this new option, that helps organizations move towards the goal of a paperless office.

The Digital Signature component provides a standards-compliant mechanism for adding user-specific digital signatures to PDF documents, so that any print-and-sign paper processes can be replaced with electronic signing, storage and retrieval document management processes. The add-on:

creates password-protected, reusable digital certificates for Nuxeo DM users,
enables multiple Nuxeo DM users to digitally sign a PDF document,
attaches digital certificates to documents, for subsequent verification of the signature by an external PDF reader.

Nuxeo Releases New Version of Open Source Document Management Software

Boston, Paris – June 1, 2011. Nuxeo, the Open Source Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform company, released a new version of Nuxeo Document Management and Nuxeo Enterprise Platform today. Nuxeo DM 5.4.2 offers a host of usability and social features to make the user experience even smoother and more streamlined. Key contributions highlight the value of community involvement in the strategy of continuous innovation for the Nuxeo platform.

The release of Nuxeo DM 5.4.2 and its underlying platform, Nuxeo EP, demonstrates execution on a vision of ongoing innovation, community engagement, and open standards support, delivered to content management application architects and developers. Driven by community feedback, many of the new features and enhancements improve usability of the application, using state-of-the-art technologies and standards, such as OpenSocial, OAuth, HTML5, WebDAV, and CMIS.

The new WSS connector was contributed by Nuxeo partner Gagnavarslan, an ECM solution provider in Iceland. The Nuxeo and Gagnavarslan teams collaborated to integrate this new component after passing the Nuxeo QA process. With this connector, the Nuxeo repository can be mapped as a drive under MS Windows or Mac OS X. "We are building a range of ECM services based on Nuxeo, and our clients need a smooth desktop integration into an existing Microsoft Windows infrastructure," said Jónas Sigurðsson, Development Manager at Gagnavarslan in Iceland. “Our group of developers in Kiev reverse engineered the existing WSS protocol to support Windows 7, Windows XP and the latest MS Office versions directly in Nuxeo EP. We support the open source paradigm and are happy to contribute our work back to the Nuxeo community."

Other contributions include ongoing enhancements for the OpenSocial integration from customer Leroy Merlin. It now supports the GWT OpenSocial container, making the dashboard faster, and providing more gadgets and layout options.

In addition, the Nuxeo platform is now completely integrated with OpenSocial and fully supports OAuth, allowing for external gadget integration in Nuxeo DM, and the use of Nuxeo DM gadgets in external containers, such as iGoogle. OAuth support ensures control of which services are used and the scope of data shared between applications.

While the GWT container is well equipped to manage dashboards, a new light OpenSocial JavaScript Gadget container offers a quick and easy way to add an OpenSocial gadget to a content template in Nuxeo DM.

Other highlights of Nuxeo EP and DM 5.4.2 include:

HTML 5 Drag'n'Drop. Import single or multiple files via drag'n'drop, without installing a plugin. With a bulk edit feature, metadata can be defined for multiple files on upload.
Local configuration. Configure the document types, themes, and content views that are available for a particular domain or workspace, rather than imposing a universal configuration on the entire repository.
New system properties for the CMIS interface. In addition to the system properties defined in the CMIS specification under the cmis: prefix, Nuxeo EP adds properties under the nuxeo: prefix.
Improved User Interface layout, for a more streamlined access to the user dashboard, document management center, and administration center.
Content Views. Content listings and search results now include filtering options and export options (RSS, ATOM, CSV, Excel, PDF), and can be easily configured with Nuxeo Studio.
Facets. These declarative markers can now be defined on a per-document instance basis instead of only per-document type, giving a more fine-tuned control of search and retrieval operations.

Content management applications often manage large volumes of information that in some cases grow quickly and can burden an organization’s IT resources. Amazon S3 offers off site data storage with a pricing scheme based on usage in a highly secure setting, making it an attractive option for content solution architects or administrators who need the flexibility of online file storage options.

When installed in a Nuxeo platform-based application such as Nuxeo DM for Open Source Document Management, the Amazon S3 Online Storage component enables access to an Amazon S3 account, so that files can be stored remotely in a way that is completely transparent to the application user. Configuration options for the combined Amazon S3 / Nuxeo technology file storage solution include data encryption and geographic location for storage.

Nuxeo Releases Google Search Appliance Plugin

Nuxeo, the Open Source Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform company, announced today the availability of the Nuxeo GSA Connector, a new package in the Nuxeo Marketplace that enables Google Search Appliance (GSA) to index and search content in Nuxeo DM Open Source Document Management. Organizations using Google Search Appliance for Enterprise Search and Nuxeo for ECM will now be able to quickly add Nuxeo DM to their collection of enterprise data resources for a federated search.

With growing volumes of information from different sources managed by organizations, enterprise search can be a powerful, time-saving tool for finding and retrieving content. The Nuxeo GSA Connector extends the accessibility of the Nuxeo DM content repository by including Nuxeo DM in the Google Search Appliance sources for enterprise search. Nuxeo DM content will appear in the enterprise search results in the same interface as other data sources indexed by the Google Search Appliance, offering a unified enterprise search experience with diverse information sources, including one or more Nuxeo applications.

The Nuxeo GSA Connector, to be deployed within Nuxeo DM, includes:

A Google Enterprise Connector Manager, so the Google Search Appliance can search and serve documents stored in the Nuxeo Content Repository, and
A Google Search Appliance connector type for Nuxeo, to configure the connection and define the content to index.

The Nuxeo GSA Connector is available on the Nuxeo Marketplace. Nuxeo Connect subscribers can download and install it directly in Nuxeo DM via the in-product Update Center. Non-Connect subscribers can sign up for a free trial, offering access to the full range of plugins and packages available in the Nuxeo Marketplace. The source code is open and available under the LGPL license.

Nuxeo Announces Nuxeo World 2011, the Second Edition of its Global User Conference

Boston, Paris – April 12, 2011. Nuxeo, the Open Source Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform company, announced today the second edition of Nuxeo World, a global conference dedicated to the open source ECM ecosystem.

Building on the success of Nuxeo World 2010, which brought together over a hundred people from the Nuxeo community, this year Nuxeo is inviting customers and partners to meet and share their experiences against the backdrop of the historical Théâtre des Variétés, in Paris, France, October 20-21, 2011.

The Nuxeo - BIRT Integration offers report design and access from within a Nuxeo ECM application.

The marriage of ECM and BI offers a compelling solution to some common and emerging challenges facing today’s content management solution architects, such as support for ECM governance.
