On the most recent episode of the Nuxeo Content Journey’s podcast, we welcomed Frédéric Sanuy, Founder & CEO of ACTIVO Consulting. I asked Frederic to join us on the Content Journeys podcast to discuss how the Enterprise DAM can play a role in the Content Supply Chain.
Here’s a little taste of our discussion:
Alan:
You and I have talked in the past about connecting the DAM with Product Information Management (PIM) and Content Management Solutions (CMS) - What have you seen from your clients that has illustrated the importance of linking these systems across the enterprise?
Frederic:
I try to explain to people that they need to be thinking of the big picture, but it’s not OK for that big picture to be just “I want to save money by having everything in one system.” Use the systems for what they are designed for. I don’t know any PIM that can manage large resolution files, and no-one wants to set up a DAM with hundred or thousands of metadata fields that you sometimes find in a PIM.
Trying to use one system to manage everything is not the right way to go about things when it comes to managing your product information. You need to get a DAM to manage large volumes of image and video assets and the PIM to aggregate the information and metadata about the related product. And today in 2021 we have the technology to connect both systems.
Alan:
One of the services that you offer is Design Thinking. Could you explain that a bit more and describe how it can be applied to Digital Asset Management?
Frederic:
Design Thinking, which we sometimes call Design Services is a way at starting at the beginning and really examining the business requirements before bringing in a new system. People can be very scared about where to start, what they have to do, possible pain points, etc.
OK, so if you want to make your company great again you have to start at the beginning and you have to listen to people. So this is the Design Thinking service that we offer at the start of every project. We use virtual meetings and workshops and say to the attendees “OK this is your time to tell us what isn’t working, what the bottlenecks are etc.” For a DAM system this is also a good time to start getting people together to start working on taxonomies, and how to organize the content before it gets uploaded into the system etc.
I want to again thank Frederic for his time, and the engaging and entertaining discussion. You can join us for the full conversation on The Content Journey podcast, now available on your favorite podcast service, and at nuxeo.com/podcasts
