Over the past few years, Nuxeo has introduced a tremendous amount of innovation to its content services platform, Nuxeo Platform. As the new year begins, it’s time to consolidate this innovation and establish a baseline for continued innovation as we move forward. This month, Nuxeo is introducing Nuxeo Platform LTS 2021.

Nuxeo Platform LTS (Long Term Support) release establishes a strong, baseline platform for our customers to create their content-centric solutions. These releases include innovation that has been delivered throughout the past year, providing a well-tested, well-understood set of capabilities that are already being used by Nuxeo customers worldwide.

This year’s LTS release features a wealth of new capabilities that enable customer solutions to address regulatory requirements, user experience, productivity, high volume scalability, intelligent automation, connectivity with business processes and applications, and more. Let’s take a quick look at what you can expect with Nuxeo LTS 2021.

Leading Cloud-Native Content Services

At its core, Nuxeo Platform is a platform providing a comprehensive set of content services, enabling our customers to address the challenges of managing critical information and leveraging this information to streamline their business. Let’s look at a few key capabilities that are included in this release:

  • Retention Management: Key to most content-centric solutions, especially those in highly regulated industries is records and retention management. With its powerful retention management features, Nuxeo Platform now can automatically control a document’s lifecycle through rules and policies. For financial services organizations in the United States, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) enforces Rule 17a-4, which includes requirements for retention, legal hold, and accessibility of records relating to the trade or brokering of stocks, bonds, futures, and other financial securities. Together with Amazon S3 storage in Compliance mode, Nuxeo Retention Management has been designed to fully comply with this rule.
  • Enhanced Viewer: For customers that are working with a wide variety of file formats, including high-resolution photography and video (e.g., 4K or 8K), the Nuxeo Enhanced Viewer allows users to preview any document stored in the Nuxeo repository, even if they do not have the native tools available. The Viewer supports a wide variety of file formats, including PDF, Microsoft Office formats, and a wide range of image and video formats. The Nuxeo Enhanced Viewer provides support for redaction, to protect sensitive information such as PII, and includes a rich set of annotation tools, allowing users to quickly add comments to the images to support review and approval workflows to support the back-and-forth collaboration common in many content-centric business processes today.
  • Nuxeo Drive: Nuxeo Drive is our desktop synchronization tool, providing a vital set of collaborative capabilities for users who want access to critical information when they are not in the office or unable to connect to the Nuxeo Platform. In addition to support for direct transfer documents to Amazon S3 storage, In LTS 2021, Nuxeo Drive can transfer very large documents, such as 4K or 8K video, through its support for multi-threaded uploads and asynchronous transfer.
  • File Storage: At the core of the Nuxeo Platform architecture, the file storage component has been completely renewed with the ability to have transactional storage, support of Amazon S3 metadata, Amazon Glacier API compatibility, native cloud front support, access to document level information, improved hierarchical storage management capabilities, configurable digest algorithm, and S3 transfer acceleration compatibility. These enhancements allow you to control exactly how you want to store and access your content, with security, cost, and performance controls.

Business-specific Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

For Nuxeo Platform LTS 2021, we are excited to include our recent innovation in Nuxeo Insight. In the past year, we have delivered an entirely new user experience that delivers on the promise of unlocking AI for those of us that are not AI experts or data scientists. Our goals for these low-code tools were two-fold: we wanted to make it easier to define and train new data models. And we wanted to provide better tools for tracking the success of these models.

With the new Nuxeo Insight user experience, we have achieved these goals. Users can now identify a set of document types and, with only a few clicks, select the various values and data types that they want the new model to identify. As it “learns” the new model, Insight provides a graphical depiction of how well the model has been trained for each field. Further, Nuxeo includes a dashboard that includes easy to understand status for each model, both in training and in production.

Connectivity with your Business

In many ways, the story of 2020 was connectivity, as Nuxeo delivered a number of connectors to support common business applications, and Nuxeo Platform LTS 2021 includes these connectors. By connecting within commonly-used business systems, Nuxeo is streamlining workflows for content creators in Adobe CC, Aspera, and Sitecore, as well as delivering content services directly within the context of business-critical systems, such as Salesforce. One of the most exciting promises of content services platforms is their ability to integrate the content services into other business tools, content-enabling them for end users. Both through the Nuxeo API and its productized connectors, Nuxeo continues to deliver on this promise.

While I’ve highlighted some of the most important new capabilities that have been included in LTS 2021, there are many more features that make Nuxeo Platform the most advanced cloud-native content services platform available.
