Meet Joaquín Garzón Peña, our Senior Solutions Architect based in Madrid. He is the one-man army in Madrid building demos and POC for our prospects in that region and helping them master the platform features.
Here is his story. Q: How long have you been with Nuxeo and how has your experience been so far? I joined Nuxeo in March 2017. Since then I have had the opportunity to learn and play with different technologies, which is something I have always loved. The support from the solutions engineering team has been very useful in accelerating my on-boarding process.
I have enjoyed being a part of this company where open source, continuous integration, unit testing, benchmarking, etc. are part of the daily routine. It’s a dream for someone who loves technology. Q: Tell us about your role here and a little about your background prior to joining Nuxeo. As a Solutions Engineer I’m in contact with multiple prospects and clients from different sectors who explain their needs and requirements. I help them understand all the features and capabilities that the Nuxeo Platform provides, and show them the best way to configure or customize the platform to fit their requirements and achieve their goals. Building POC and demos is part of the fun because I have the opportunity to work with all the cool technologies developed or integrated by Nuxeo.
In 2013 I founded ArtifexSoft, a software company focused on mobile apps and web development, where I worked until I joined Nuxeo. Prior to that, I worked for Correos, the spanish postal operator, and in a couple of startups creating virtual games for retail and betting industries and developing software for Personal Video Recorders (PVR) and TDT decoders before the smart TV was popular. Also I spent the first few years of my professional life working for different IT consultancies. Q: What is the most interesting thing you’ve worked on since you joined? The POC I worked on for the DGT (Spanish Traffic Department) was one of the most interesting projects for me. It was a Case management use case where the Nuxeo Platform was used as the core system to manage R&D subsidies, where each subsidy was required to follow a complex lifecycle with several steps (two validation phases, one in parallel evaluation process, task assignment, etc.) and multiple documents were generated automatically as a result of each step of the workflow. The user interface was also customized to fit the DGT requirements. So I got the opportunity to work with a wide range of features offered by Nuxeo, which was very exciting. Q: As a Solutions Architect, you use a wide variety of Nuxeo tools (like Nuxeo Studio, Connectors, Marketplace packages, etc.) for your projects and demos. What are some of those features and capabilities that really wow the clients? Nuxeo Vision and its features, such as describing the content, adding tags automatically or identifying the text included on a image, always surprise our clients. “Really cool” is what they usually say!
Nuxeo Desktop Sync is another hit among our clients. Some of the things that they love about Desktop Sync are: - Being able to keep working on an event when they are not connected - Being able to use their favorite software to edit the last version of the documents and knowing that all their changes will always be in sync once they are done Another one of our rock stars that customers love is Live Connect, which allows the Nuxeo Platform to treat files in various cloud-based file sync and share systems (such as Dropbox, Google Drive, Box, OneDrive, etc) as if they were a part of the local file system or repository.
Q: Can you tell us about a few scenarios that our prospects commonly ask to see in demos? Preview of different document types (MS Office, LibreOffice, PDF, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Autocad, .jpg, .png, .svg), offline availability of the content provided by Nuxeo Desktop Sync, access to the documents from different platforms (web browsers, Android or iOS phones and tablets), and workflows and lifecycle definition are some of the most common scenarios requested for demos.
During the demos, I also get a few usual questions like: “How easy is it to deploy the Nuxeo Platform on a cloud based environment?”, “Can I customize the user Interface?” or “Is high availability supported?”. The answer is of course “It can be done and it is really easy to do”. Q: When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time? I try to spend most of my time with my family. I enjoy playing with my 5 year old kid a lot. Our usual playtime activities include building Lego airplanes and ships, discussing who is the strongest between Batman and Ironman (everybody knows that Ironman sucks) or reading stories on our favorite couch.
On weekends, I try to go mountain biking with my friends. Cross country and Enduro are my favourites disciplines, but from time to time I do embrace a bit of downhill biking!
