[Nuxeo Monthly] Search, Cloud and Digital Asset Management in this month’s program

Mon 16 May 2011 By nuxeo

This month Nuxeo invites you to get to know us better! We’ve released several new enhancements and addons to our products to make them easier to work with along with new Marketplace packages designed to further integrate Nuxeo solutions with industry standards. And, beginning this month, we’ve added a new webinar series dedicated to introducing newcomers to our flagship product: Nuxeo Document Management.

Also, as we’ve just released the 1.3 version, we want to introduce you to Nuxeo DAM (open source digital asset management). We realize that content comes in many forms and nowadays rich media content, with its hefty file sizes, unique viewing requirements, and an endless variety of cataloging possibilities is becoming an increasingly demanding aspect in everyone’s work place. If you haven’t yet checked it out, now’s your chance!

As always, we’re open, not just in software, but also in spirit, so feel free to share with us your feedback and tell us how we can help you get the most out of your content management system.

Announcing Two New Marketplace Packages!

This month we’ve released two new Marketplace packages designed to further extend and integrate your Nuxeo application:

Google Search Appliance (GSA) Connector
The Nuxeo GSA Connector enables the Google Search Appliance (GSA) to index and search your Open Source Document Management solution, Nuxeo Document Management (DM), for content. With this connector, content from the Nuxeo repository will appear in enterprise search results in the same interface as other data sources indexed by the Google Search Appliance, offering a unified enterprise search experience with diverse information sources, including one or more Nuxeo applications.

Amazon S3 Online Storage for Nuxeo Content Repository
Amazon S3 Online Storage is a component of the Nuxeo platform that offers an easy, cost-effective option of storing files - the attachments that are uploaded within a content object - in an Amazon S3 bucket on the cloud. When this package is installed in a Nuxeo platform-based application such as Nuxeo Document Management, Nuxeo Digital Asset Management, or Nuxeo Case Management Framework, files can be stored remotely in a way that is completely transparent to the application user.

This means it has an configuration wizard, a controller GUI, and is generally even easier to install and run.

Cooking up the next release: Nuxeo 5.4.2!

As a lead-up to the upcoming release of Nuxeo 5.4.2, the Nuxeo developers have been hard at work to integrate as many new features as possible. We’ve decided to share our progress on these new features as they happen, so keep an eye on our dev blog so you can get the latest information as it comes out—hot off our developer’s coding fingertips! News from our Eclipse Activities

First off, we’d like to say a very warm, “WELCOME APRICOT!” Apricot is the new project name for the previously (very formally) entitled ECR Project. The project members felt it deserved more than an acronym in order for it to really grow and take shape.

Apricot's Creation Review took place on May 5th − 11th and we're happy to report that it has successfully passed this important milestone. This is a key step in the process as it validates the scope of the project and means it’s accepted and fits well with existing Eclipse Foundation projects. Additionally, the purpose of the Creation Review is to ensure that the project being proposed has the potential and the bandwidth for forward momentum. The Creation Review stage gauges the community and membership response to the proposal and verifies that the necessary resources are available and committed to the project to achieve its goals. Next stop? Contributing the code base of the project, setting up a project website and tools, and who knows...maybe even a logo (design ideas welcome - hint, hint)!

Interested in Semantic Web?

As an active member of the IKS project (Interactive Knowledge Stack), Nuxeo will participate in the forthcoming Semantic Web workshop in Paris on July 5th and 6th. Join us at this workshop and gain practical insight on how semantic web technology can enhance your Enterprise Content Management processes and solutions. Along with many other topics, this workshop will provide an introduction to the Apache Stanbol project, which Nuxeo contributes to, and discuss how this project integrates with the Nuxeo Platform.
